George Evan Stoddard, son of Elma Marie Skelton, daughter of Ethel Christiana Stevens, daughter of Redick Elisher Stevens, son of Henry Barnabas Stevens (H.B. or Barney) and Lucy Adeline Allred (Adeline)
Henry Barnabas Stevens (H.B. or Barney) was born October 26, 1834, in Shurebrook, Lenark, Canada, the son of Henry Stevens, Jr., and Mary Ann Howe. The family joined the Church in Canada and settled in Far West, Missouri, then in Nauvoo, Illinois. H.B. was 15 when they crossed the plains with the James Pace Company, arriving in Salt Lake City in September 1850. They first settled in Farmington, Davis County, then moved to Payson, to Manti, and, in 1854, to Ephraim, Sanpete County, where H.B. (or Barney) helped to build the pioneer fort. On September 12, 1855, at age 20, H.B. married Elizabeth Whitlock. H.B. was ordained a Seventy May 17, 1857. The family moved to Spring City, where, at age 26, H.B. married a second wife, Lucy Adeline Allred (Adeline), on February 14, 1861. (Elizabeth and Adeline were second cousins: Elizabeth's mother and Adeline's father were first cousins.) At the end of 1863 the family was called to go southward and help settle Kane County, where they farmed. Adeline died April 25, 1866, eight weeks after giving birth to Redick Elisher Stevens, her third child. In 1870 the family returned to Ephraim, where H.B. farmed, worked as a carpenter, operated a saw mill in Ephraim Canyon, and served as a member of the city council. H.B. died August 1, 1907.
