Mary Ann Howe was born April 6, 1816 on Grindstone Island (Isle de la Madeleine), Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Daniel Howe and Abigail. She married Henry Stevens, Jr., November 26, 1832 (four children: Henry Barnabas, Chloe, James, Elisha). He was 20; she was 16. Henry and Mary Ann joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837 and the family moved to Lee County, Iowa, and then to Nauvoo, Illinois. They crossed the plains in the James Pace Company, arriving in Salt Lake City in September of 1850, and first settled in Payson. Mary Ann received her temple endowment on February 9, 1852, and was sealed to Henry on December 3, 1853. In 1853 he was called to help settle Sanpete County. The family moved to Manti, then to Ephraim. On July 24, 1854, Henry married Augusta Rasimena Dorius in Ephraim and was sealed to her the following day in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City. He was 42; she was 15. The family next moved to Spring City. In 1861 Henry and Augusta moved to Dixie for Henry's health, and lived there for three years. Mary Ann stayed at home in Spring City with her children, ages about 15 to 27. She died of pneumonia there on March 19, 1864, at the age of 47.
